Leadership Program

The College of Business has developed an exciting new program for high achieving incoming freshman business majors – the Stony Brook Business Leaders Program.

The program takes a select group of students and develops their leadership skills through course work  and a variety of additional projects. Students take several core sources to gain a sense of community with faculty and other students.

In their first year, students go through a three-course business learning community that integrates the introduction to business course (BUS 115), the required composition course (WRT 102) and the media literacy course (JRN 101.)  All students in this program will be exempted from the WRT 101 course.

The faculty members from these three courses are working together to make these courses relevant to business majors.  The WRT 102 course, for instance, will place an emphasis on business writing and the media literacy course will focus on business in the media.  The three courses together will provide a student with a comprehensive introduction to business.

Beyond the first semester, the College of Business faculty and staff will work with the Business Leaders in various ways to map out courses and provide rich learning experiences inside and outside the classroom to develop leadership and business skills.
