Q: Can I use work experience towards earning MBA credits? A: If you have a graduate degree, or at least five years of post bachelor’s professional work experience, you may be considered for a 12 credit waiver, which would require a total of 48 credits for graduation clearance rather than 60. A: Saturday classes are restricted to 48-credit MBA students or MBA students who work full time during the week.Q: Is work experience required for admission into the MBA program?
A: No, work experience is not a requirement for acceptance into the program, but it is a factor that the admissions committee considers.Q: What is the minimum GPA for admission to the MBA program?
A: You are expected to have a GPA of 3.0 in prior academic work. In exceptional cases, a GPA below 3.0 will be considered for “conditional admission” to the MBA program. If admitted “conditionally,” you must achieve a 3.0 GPA in the first semester to continue in the MBA program.Note: The College of Business cannot provide any indication of your admission status before your complete application is reviewed by the admissions committee. Q: Do I need to take the GMAT?
A: Yes, students that apply for the MBA must submit official GMAT scores. If this presents a special hardship, you may contact us. The GMAT will be considered as part of the evaluation of your application along with letters of recommendation, grades, and other materials.***In the past, Kaplan has offered Stony Brook MBA applicants a 20% discount on GMAT prep classes. Please visit www.kaptest.comor call 1-800-KAPTEST to find out more about this offer. Q: I have received my unofficial GMAT scores. Can I submit these with my application? A: Yes, by faxing or sending your unofficial scores to us [Fax: (631)632-8181], your application can be initially reviewed for admittance. However, we would need your official scores to arrive before a final decision can be made. Q: What is the minimum GMAT score for admission to the MBA program?
A: Your GMAT score is one part of your completed application and the admissions committee reviews the score in combination with your other materials. The admission committee looks for a minimum score of 550. However, applications will still be reviewed if your scores are below 550.Note: The College of Business cannot provide any indication of your likelihood of admission before your complete application is reviewed by the admissions committee. Q: Where should I send my official transcripts and any letters of recommendation that weren't submitted online?

A: You can submit your application and we will hold it until you can fax us unofficial scores from your completed GMAT. Note: Your application will not receive final processing until we receive an official copy of your GMAT scoreQ: When is my application due?
A: The deadline for Spring admissions is November 1st. The deadline for Fall admissions is March 15th. If you submit your application after these deadlines, it will be considered only if there is adequate time to process your paperwork for admission and there is room in the program.Q: When will I hear back about a decision? A: Depending on when your application was received, it can take anywhere from 4-10 weeks to reply to you. Once we have received all of your materials, your application will be sent to the admissions committee for review. You can check Appy Yourself at any time to view the status of your application. (During heavy admission time periods please allow 1-2 weeks from the time your materials are received to when your status is updated). Q: Can I take courses as a non-matriculated student?
A: The College of Business does not allow non-matriculated students to take MBA courses. Enrollment in MBA courses are limited to students matriculated in the MBA program or students matriculated into a program such as the Masters in Public Health or the Technology Certificate program where MBA courses are necessary to satisfy degree requirements.Q: Can I receive financial aid?
A: Information regarding need-based financial assistance can be obtained from the Office of Financial Aid at (631) 632-6840Q: Are there concentrations available in the MBA program?
A: Yes, as an MBA student, you must select a concentration in Finance, Management, Marketing, Information Systems Management, Health Care Management* or Human Resources Management. The concentration will be completed by taking 12 elective credits in your chosen concentration. *Health Care Management must be taken through an advanced certificate program, which requires a separate application. A: A maximum of 12 graduate credits may be transferred into the MBA program with the approval of the Graduate Program Director. Credits must not have been used to fulfill the requirements for another degree/certificate and credits must not be more than 5years old at the time the student is admitted to graduate study at SBU. The credits must carry a letter grade of B or higher. A course listed as both graduate and/or undergraduate level will not be considered for transfer.International Student FAQs
Q: As an international MBA student, once I am accepted into the MBA program, what paperwork do I need to submit?
A: If accepted into the MBA program, international applicants must submit a completed request for Certificate of Eligibility (SEVIS Form I-20) located at: http://www.grad.stonybrook.edu/international/forms/2009MBARequest4CertificateofEligibility.pdfQ: I am applying as an international student; do I need to take the TOEFL?
A: If your native or primary language is not English, you must take an English proficiency test. To be considered for admission, an applicant must present an acceptable score on the TOEFL or IELTS test.
What are the minimum scores required for admission? TOEFL exam: IELTS: overall score of 6.5 – no sub-score below 6 Paper-based test: 550 Computer-based test: 213 Internet-based test: 90 with no subscore below 22 is recommended for success in the program. However, iBT scores of 80 and above will be considered for admission.
