The College of Business offers undergraduate students a major and a minor in Business Management.

The major program provides students with a solid foundation of essential business concepts and applications.The minor supplements their major studies, offering effective business knowledge and building valuable technical skills.

Candidates interested in obtaining additional information about our programs are encouraged to browse through our website or, to contact the College of Business Office of Student Services (OSS) at  (631) 632-7171. The OSS is located on the first floor of Harriman Hall, room 102 and offers students administrative support and academic guidance, including assistance with the application process.

 

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA AND PROCEDURES

 

Incoming Freshman and Transfer Students:

 Prospective freshman or transfer students, who wish to enter the business management major, must specify their interest at the time they apply to the University. Qualified applicants are accepted into the major simultaneously with their admission into the University. For consideration for admission into the major as a freshmen, students should score in the range of an 88 high school g.p.a. or higher, and have an overall combined SAT (reading +math) of at least 1100 with a minimum critical reading score of 500 and a minimum math score of 550. Transfer students are considered for admission into the Business major with a 3.1 g.p.a. or higher.


Currently Enrolled Students and Prospective Business Minors:

Students who are not directly admitted into the business program, students who decide to change their major, or students looking to declare a minor in business, may apply internally to be accepted into the program.  Admission into the Business major or minor requires a minimum cumulative g.p.a. of 3.1 which includes all coursework at Stony Brook University and all transfer credits from previous colleges and universities.

 

Prospective Majors and Minors who fall below the 3.1 requirement:

These students may submit an internal application. Application forms are available in the College of Business Office of Student Services, Room 102 Harriman Hall.  Completed applications include: the application form, a personal statement, letters of recommendation and transcripts from all institutions of higher education.  Business major and minor applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and a decision is usually rendered within one month of completing the application process.
