To our Current Undergraduate Students

Being part of the College of Business you benefit both from the wealth of events and programs offered by Stony Brook , and from the initiatives and projects lead by the College's faculty and staff. Here's what the College of Business has in store for you:

PARTICIPATE IN LEARNING COMMUNITIES

The integrated learning community is modeled after the successful BA/BS + MBA program.  In this group, the faculty members work together, integrating the course material and coordinating assignments that span across the designated courses.  The class size has been reduced to promote a closer group dynamic.  As a result, students will make lasting friendships and form strong bonds with faculty members.  Learning communities vary from semester to semester, please contact the Office of Student Services, or visit the CoB website, to determine eligibility and current offerings.

ATTEND OUR WEDNESDAY EVENTS

Every Wednesday at 12:50 during the semester, The College of Business will be sponsoring events with outside speakers and other activities.  Some of the past activities have included: Resume writing skills, Interviewing skills, Internship Opportunities, Leadership skills, and Microsoft Excel Workshops. Students who make the effort to participate in these events will become more competitive in the job market and will contribute to building the communal life of the College.   Please contact the Office of Student Services or visit our website for an up to date list of events.

STUDY ABROAD

All business students are encouraged to spend a summer or winter session or a semester in the study abroad program to learn about business in other countries.  Ideally, it is recommended to study abroad around the second semester sophomore year. These experiences will provide students with a competitive edge in the job market as businesses increasingly look for employees with overseas knowledge.  Participating in a study abroad experience will change the way you look at the world and give you an edge in the business world.

For more information about studying abroad, please contact: International Academic Programs at  (631) 632– 7030 or visit their website.

COMPLETE AN INTERNSHIP

Every business student should be registered with the Career Center --- and this should start early in the business program. A College of Business internship can be a valuable and interesting educational experience.  It consists of integrating the students experience in a work setting with the University’s academic environment.  Through an internship, students have the opportunity to gain practical experience in a particular area and relate this to the knowledge obtained in classes. An internship allows students to apply concepts and ideas to real-life situations and also is a stepping stone towards a successful post-academic career.

For further details regarding Internships and all other career related information, please visit the Career Center’s website .

What Our Students Are Saying

Student
Susana Li, BA/BS+MBA program alumna
"As a student majoring in biology for my undergraduate studies, the combined degree MBA program broadened my views and brought about endless career opportunities. Long lasting friendships and networks were built while preparing hands-on projects that reinforced and complemented the educational material taught in class. I believe that the projects provided me with real life job experience that helped greatly when starting my career.

I currently work as a Retail Bank Management Associate for HSBC, a global leader in the finance industry.

I would definitely recommend any business program provided by the College of Business at Stony Brook to my colleagues and friends. The faculty and staff are very dedicated to their work. You get the sense that they want to pass on their knowledge and business experiences once you walk into the classrooms. There is a lot of room for interactive learning, networking and pure fun once you open your heart to the opportunities that are out there."
