| Stony Brook Students Fifth in NYSSA Competition |
|
2009 marked the 7th year of this annual initiative, in which leading industry professionals teach business and finance students how to research and report on a publicly traded company. The program lasts 6 moths and at the end, the participating student teams are asked to analyse the financial performance of one specific publicly-traded company. This year it was Phillips-Van Heusen. Their reports are then evaluated by NYSSA experts and ranked based on overall analysis scope and depth. Stony Brook's College of Business was one of the 14 business schools that took part in the competition this year. The Stony Brook team was lead by Michael Nugent, Director of the Finance Program. The team members included Edna Addo - an undergraduate student who will graduate this May - and three MBA students - Andrew DeCicco, Srinivas Jalem and Eric Kanner.Columbia Business School, Fordham University, Rutgers and Yale University ranked as the top four IRC teams this year. Our students finished fifth, placing higher than Baruch College, NYU, Pace University, St John’s University, Hofstra University, William Paterson University and Stillman School of Business. Accodring to the NYSSA experts, what placed our team high on the list was their overall analysis and scope of research into all aspects of the company. The depth of their report and understanding for the industry helped them make comparisons that were truly insightful. Their research was far above most of the other teams in the challenge.
